Colagrossi will compete on behalf of River Play, the club’s new esports division and the pro FIFA and PES player, who is also a fan of the club, will become its first athlete.

The announcement by River Plate President Rodolfo D’Onofrio also saw the revelation of a new tournament called Copa River Play. This will be a tournament which offers players the opportunity to become the club’s second professional esports star. Qualifying stages will be played out online with the final rounds at the club’s Monumental Stadium. Details of how to enter have not yet been revealed.

River Plate GM Gustavo Silikovich, Marina Mendez, the CEO of Rome Agency, and players from the first team including Rodrigo Mora were also present at the announcement.

Esports Insider says: And so another football club enters esports, but this time with a specific division titled River Play, it seems likely they’ll be delving farther in than merely signing up one or two FIFA players.
