Will Ferrell will star in an esports comedy

Legendary Entertainment announced on Tuesday that none other than Will Ferrell will be starring in an as yet unnamed esports comedy. willferrell

It will be directed by Jake Szymanski, who has directed Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates and been involved with Saturday Night Live.

It’ll be written by Michael Kvamme and Jordan Dunn and produced by Gary Sanchez Production and Mosaic. The former is responsible for a number of popular Ferrell titles such as Step Brothers and Eastbound and down, as is the latter which did Talladega Nights and Elf.

It’s Talladega Nights, the film about dysfunctional NASCAR driver Ricky Bobby, played by Ferrell that this esports project has been likened to. Little else has been revealed about the film though it was teased that Evil Geniuses and Fnatic are in talks to be involved. 

According to Deadline.com, Ferrell will play a professional esports player. Universal, which is partnered with Legendary, will handle the worldwide distribution of the film outside China.
