Update: The final broke streaming records with over one million people tuned into the finale at the same time. Precisely 1,026,000 was the peak figure for the English language version.

Danish side Astralis were crowned the champions of the ELEAGUE Major on Sunday evening after some excellent entertainment from a number of teams in the finals.

The Danish side battled their way through and met Virtus Pro in the final. They came back after losing map one 16-12; the second two were tense but Astralis held out winning each 16-14.

As such Duncan ‘Thorin’ Shields’ pre-tournament outright winner prediction was proved correct. Most of the bookies had had Astralis at around 6.00 with Na’Vi, finalists Virtus Pro and in some instances SK Gaming seen as likelier to emerge victorious.

The major generally saw some incredibly exciting match-ups, and hats off must go to Virtus Pro for coming back and beating North in the quarters. With the score tied at one map apiece, North were up 13-8 in the final (Cobblestone) only for the Poles to show true character and mental strength and come back to win after an excruciating 13-13 tie.

Elsewhere in the tournament Fnatic and SK Gaming made it to the semis, and Gambit who some tipped to cause something of an upset reached the quarters only to be dismissed by Fnatic. Na’Vi and Faze made up the other quarter finalists.

Esports Insider says: A great win by Astralis in an exciting final. The Great Danes were not quite so flawless (that loss to GODSENT) as some expected them to be for the full duration but when push came to shove, they shoved the hardest.
