The numbers now show just how significant esports is to the betting industry. Pinnacle has announced today that it has now taken five million bets on esports markets.

Pinnacle also told us that should this continue at the current rate the bookmaker will take its 10 millionth bet on esports sometime in January 2018.

The operator has been offering esports in some form since 2010 but it was only last year that things picked up and it hit the three millionth wager mark. Two million bets in less than half a year says something; this is an unprecedented growth curve that no other betting market has ever matched.

Marco Blume, Pinnacle’s Trading Director said: “Esports are written in Pinnacle’s DNA and this landmark, 5 Million bets, certainly consolidates our leading position. Pinnacle has used its considerable skill in trading sports and successfully translated it to esports. It’s now worldwide phenomenon and last weekend’s milestone just shows how popular esports betting has become.”

Pinnacle CEO Paris Smith commented: “When Pinnacle accepted the first ever bet on esports in 2010 none of us knew if it would be a one hit wonder or could turn into something bigger. Five million bets later, our expectations have been exceeded – I think it’s fair to say we’re at the forefront of the most exciting and fastest growing betting markets.”

Esports Insider says: Five million bets overall, two million bets in six months and ten million bets total in a year’s time. These are some figures from Pinnacle. After picking up the SBC and EGR awards for best esports bookie last year the hope is that in 2017 we see a variety of new markets, and that Pinnacle’s new Betting Resources feature gives esports some love.
