ESEA announce teams for S24 Mountain Dew League Global Challenge

The North-American based tournament operator ESEA have announced the eight teams set for their Global Challenge LAN event in May. The tournament, sponsored by PepsiCo brand Mountain Dew, offers up a $50,000 (£38,700) prize pot.

The Season 24 Global Challenge LAN comes after a three month long season where teams from all over the world competed. The finals are set to be hosted at the ESL UK studios in Leicester, over the 13th & 14th May.

The competitors are made up of the top teams of four regions; the highest placing three teams in the European and North American Premier Divisions, the first place team in the Australian Premier Division and the top side from the Brazilian league.

With the tournament being forced into a two-day schedule, game time will be tight. As such, the eight teams are to be split into two best-of-one double-elimination groups, narrowing down the teams on the 13th. The semi-finals and final will be a best of three match-up on the 14th.

The Season 23 Global Challenge LAN winners were the Danish side Rogue, who took the victory in Burbank, California, and the $18,000 (£13,900) prize. With them not qualifying for the Global Challenge finals, neither of the previous two champions can claim the title this time around, leaving the door wide open for another team to swoop in and add their name to history.

The teams are:

Group A Group B
GODSENT Splyce
Enigma6 BIG
PENTA Sports Ghost Gaming
Dark Sided paiN Gaming

More information on the tournament, including full prize breakdown and livestream information, is available from ESEA’s announcement.

Esports Insider says: So this sees ESEA hosting their third successive Global Challenge LAN, with the retained sponsorship of Mountain Dew. Hosting it in the UK this time around adds another element to the international events ESL UK have hosted at their Leicester studios, and it’s testament to the quality of events they put on.
