Undeterred by the Ninjas in Pyjamas sponsorship news last week, Betway and ESL have announced a partnership that will see the bookmaker become a sponsor for Season 6 of the ESL Pro League.

In case you missed it, due to Riot’s rules and regulations about sponsors, Betway are not allowed to be across the Ninjas in Pyjamas jersey and as a result the partnership has ended a year earlier than intended. The problem was not there initially as Ninjas did not hold a team in League of Legends until recently. The bookmaker will continue to have involvement with the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster, however.

It has not prevented Betway the bookmaker from continuing its good work in the esports space, however. Betway were a partner back at ESL One Cologne and now continue to sponsor GeT_RiGhT, F0rest, Rez, Xizt and Draken of the Ninjas,

The deal will see Betway enhance the ESL Pro League experience by adding live odds to the broadcast, much in the same way as they demonstrated at ESL One Cologne. The release also states that viewers will get an insight into the content that unique content Betway has produced.

Anthony Werkman, Director of Marketing and Operations at Betway stated: “We are delighted to continue our market leading partnership with ESL. After the huge success of our ESL One Cologne sponsorship, supporting CS:GO’s most prestigious league was the logical next step.”

The sixth season of the ESL Pro League gets underway tomorrow, with 14 European and 14 North American teams beginning their campaigns as they aim to reach the season finals and the ultimate prize pool of $1,000,000. The online phase of the league will take place over the course of 7 weeks on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with three weeks being dubbed “super weeks” and having games through from Tuesday until Sunday.

Esports Insider says: It’s great to see the Betway team forging on despite the disappointing setback of last week and the Riot issue. The activation at Cologne was seemingly a great success and now the bookmaker is back for more as it continues to lead the way in terms of sponsorship at the intersection of gambling and esports.
