It’s unsurprising that Lyon have announced that they will be signing a FIFA player; with club president Jean-Michel Aulas revealing to newspaper L’equipe

“We decided at the last steering […]to invest in esports, starting with the recruitment of a player. We will target the FIFA soccer game. We will develop a presence, we will look, see how it can fit into our brand strategy.”

It means that Lyon become the third French team to announce they shall be competing in FIFA; with Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco the other two to have already revealed their esports offering. As of yet, Lyon have not revealed who their FIFA player shall be.

With e-Ligue 1 announced, we wouldn’t expect this to be the last French club entering the space either.

Esports Insider says: It’s no real surprise that Lyon have come along and stepped into the space. We would expect more clubs to be getting involved, and we’re looking forward to seeing who Lyon reveal as their representative.
