Korean BBQ and League of Legends

Genesis BBQ Chicken, a Korean BBQ chain, has purchased the ESC Ever League of Legends team.

The name ESC Ever is no more however, and the organisation has been reborn as BBQ Olivers. It is under this name that the team will compete in the LCK 2017. The Olivers part of the name is a reference to the fact that the company uses 100% extra virgin olive oil when frying its chicken, a fact it is evidently and rightly proud of.

Arguably a smaller commercial entrant than the likes of Miami Heat then, but still our favourite of the week. Admittedly, this is largely down to the team’s logo. Also whilst we may not know of it in the UK Genesis is a big company in its own right; it has over 4000 stores inside and outside of South Korea and has a presence in 43 countries. As such the team should gain significant backing with this deal.

The team’s current line up consists of Kim “Crazy” Jae-hee, Choi “Bless” Hyeon-woong, Kang “Tempt” Myung-gu, Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun, Eun “Totoro” Jong-seop and Jin “Firetrap” Jae-seung.

KeSPA Chairman Jeon Byung Heon commented: “Through support from BBQ—who lead Korea’s healthy dining culture—I am certain that Korean esports and BBQ will grow together. Going forward, the association will not grow lazy in its efforts to create an healthy esports ecosystem and an esports culture everyone can enjoy.”

Esports Insider says: Perhaps our favourite sponsor so far and almost definitely our favourite team logo, we’re pleased with this one. Genesis BBQ aims to be present in 197 countries by 2020 so if any of this ambition and drive can rub off on BBQ Olivers then the team should be in for a good season.
