Deutsche Glasfaser partners with FC Schalke 04

FC Schalke 04 has signed a three-year deal with the German telecommunications company Deutsche Glasfaser in order to promote the organisation’s efforts in esports.

The company will provide glass-fibre networking to its esports teams across League of Legends and FIFA.

This is the second sponsor for Schalke Esports after AOK Nordwest became the club’s first esports partner before the 2017/18 season.

Alexander Jobst, Marketing Director of FC Schalke 04 commented: “With our new esports partner Deutsche Glasfaser we look forward to a technological and innovative cooperation. Technically speaking, there is nothing better than a pure fiber optic connection to the worldwide gaming experience network.”

Deutsche Glasfaser is considered a “young” company in the realm of German telecommunications, as the company was founded only five years ago. This partnership is the first for the company in the realm of esports.

Uwe Nickl, CEO of Deutsche Glasfaser added: “Today Schalke 04 is the innovation leader in esports – and number one deserves the best leadership: The bandwidth and reaction speed of our pure fiber optic connection are simply unbeatable, so we are glad that we, as a young telecommunications company, were able to win over Schalke 04 for a long-term cooperation. FC Schalke 04 helps us to make our offer even better known nationwide.”

As the EU LCS moves to a franchising format there were rumours Schalke esports would bid on a place in the league. However, it was confirmed earlier this month the club would be voluntarily dropping out of the EU LCS at the end of the summer split and observe the new franchising format before moving forward.

Esports Insider says: What’s the most important asset for any competitive game? Solid internet access. In this day and age fibre optic networking is the best making this a great partnership for both parties. However it is a strange partnership as Schalke will be pulling out of the EU LCS (for now) and focusing more on its FIFA players.
