Gears of War returns to England with EGL London event

EGL has confirmed Gear of War esports will return to the UK on the 9-10th of June, hosted at Stamford Bridge, home of Chelsea Football Club.

First reported by Esports News UK, EGL London will be the second Gears event in the UK after EGL hosted a successful event with their Gears open, Sheffield.

EGL London will see 32 teams battle it out in a double elimination format with $20,000(£14,726) split among the top 4 teams with first place taking $10,000(£7,364). While the top 32 teams will take home a share of 68.000 Gears Pro Points, with 10,000 going to first place.

The event will seed teams based on their accumulated Pro Circuit Pro Points with teams required to submit their rosters before June 7th. Due to the games age rating, EGL has put an 18+ rating for event attendees. For those not able to attend the event in person, EGL will stream the tournament live on both Twitch.tv and Mixer.

The weekend of June 8-10 might have some fans wondering “That seems like a date I’ve seen before” and you would be correct. From the Rocket League World Championships, hosted at the Copper Box Arena. The ECS season 5 finals which will take place at Wembley and epicLAN will also host its UK lan event that same weekend at the Kettering Conference Centre. The weekend was even subject to a recent Twitter poll by ESI which asked fans what event they would attend.

Stamford Bridge has hosted esports events in 2018 already with ESI hosting our Super Forum at the stadium in March. 

Esports Insider says: More events in England is great news. 2018 looks set to be the busiest year with huge events across multiple different esports being hosted around the countries largest cities. Gears of War has a smaller but dedicated following and with recent Gears of War 5 rumours, it could be an important year for the Microsoft exclusive title.
