AS Monaco joins eFootball.Pro competition

French football club, AS Monaco, has become the third team to join the eFootball.Pro competition, joining FC Barcelona and Schalke 04. The competition is open exclusively to football clubs.

Juli Ferre, AS Monaco Commercial and Marketing Director, spoke about the deal:“One year after having created our dedicated eSports structure, this is another step forward in the electronic sports industry for AS Monaco. The club which is already participating in different games shows with this new move its commitment to position itself as a key player in this area.”

Juli added: “We are delighted to be the third club joining, as founding partners along with FC Barcelona and Schalke 04, in the first international electronic sports league for football clubs only. We are very excited to soon be competing with such great challengers, in this tough competition which will provide great moments to share with our fans.”

eFootball.Pro is run and owned by Esports Media Rights (EMR) with FC Barcelona star Gerard Piqué acting as President and Founder of the company, with KONAMI’s popular title PES will be used in future competitions.

Gerard Piqué, founder and president of eFootball.Pro, added:”Monaco is currently one of the greatest European clubs and a very expected addition to eFootball.Pro.”They are already in several eSports leagues with other games and will undoubtedly be a rival to take into account in our competition. The rest of the clubs will have to be on the alert for their moves before and during the season”.

PES has been making a lot of moves ahead of the 2019 edition of their popular football game, acquiring exclusive rights to almost any league their rival FIFA has not already secured, including deals with individual clubs.

Masami Saso, President of Konami Digital Entertainment B.V, commented on the deal: “The unique and illustrious eSports competition, eFootball.Pro, continues to attract the greatest football clubs known all over the world, as further evidenced by today’s AS Monaco announcement. We are incredibly excited to welcome AS Monaco into our growing, competitive family and are looking forward to watching the first clash between our new challengers and their opponents”.

Esports Insider says: PES is miles behind FIFA when it comes to esports. FIFA has just this weekend concluded its FIFA eWorld Cup so the pressure is on KONAMI to deliver big with PES esports. Right now eFootball.Pro has secured three top football sides but it needs more, a number of big football sides have esports teams who play in FIFA with more entering the scene by the week. KONAMI would be wise to announce more of these deals in the near future.
