Turner and IMG’s esports tournament brand ELEAGUE will host the very first Gears 5 esports event on July 13-14th.

The teams that will compete in the upcoming event are OpTic Gaming, Ghost Gaming, Rise Nation, Team Reciprocity, Simplicity, EU’s Finest, Mazer, and Glory.

The invitational will be hosted, casted, and analysed by a host of familiar faces from the Gears of War competitive scene. Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez will host, analysis will come from Jourdan “Ribs” Ribeiro and Jacob “PR” Arce, it’ll be casted by Ben “Benson” Bowe, Guy “Blaze” Spencer, Colin Clarke, Loviel “Velly” Cardwell, with Jourdan Kerl acting as reporter.

Fans who tune in to the event’s stream for at least 60 minutes will earn exclusive in-game content for both Gears of War 4 and Gears 5.

ELEAGUE previouly partnered with Xbox to promote Gears of War esports through a six-part documentary series that’s currently airing on TBS. The show highlights professional players as they gear up to compete in the upcoming invitational.

Announced by Microsoft at its E3 keynote earlier this month, Gears 5 will be released on September 10th. It’s available four days earlier on September 6th for players who subscribe to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Esports Insider says: This appears to be an all-out effort to get more eyes on the Gears series than it has ever had before. Integrating a televised documentary series with an exclusive showcase of Gears 5 (in a competitive setting, no less) is clearly a strategic decision and we’ll be interested to see if it pays off.
