The goal for NTT Corp and its partners is to create and manage a multi-purpose facility dedicated to esports and event hosting. The venue will be located at the Akihabara UDX complex in Japan’s capital, Tokyo.

NTTe-Sports is to commence with operations around July 2020. It will be equipped with gaming PCs and peripherals and will utilise localised 5G wireless networks throughout the facility.

With the funding raised, NTTe-Sports wants to launch a large-scale, high-capacity gaming and esports facility that will have the ability to host esports events, offer studio space for content creation, and provide a development platform for esports talent.

Alongside operating the new facility, NTTe-Sports will work with other Japanese esports businesses in an attempt to expand the interest for esports in the country, including co-sponsorship of the Fighting Gods Festival 2020- World Championship of ARCADE fighting games event.

Esports Insider says: The creation of a dedicated facility to esports could well benefit the local esports teams and players in the area. It will be interesting to see its impact on Japanese esports in the next few years should all go well!
