$13.8M raised in disclosed esports investments in March 2020

As the esports industry continues to grow, so does the interest in owning a piece of the pie. Celebrities and venture capitalists are investing millions of pounds, companies are merging together to consolidate, and acquisitions are becoming pretty common, too.

To make things easier, Esports Insider has brought together the major investments, mergers, and acquisitions of March 2020, including $13.8 million (£11.1 million) in disclosed funding.

VERITAS raises $10m, unveils LVL gaming center

Berlin-based VERITAS Entertainment announced its gaming centre, dubbed LVL, after raising $10 million (£7.72 million) in funding.

The 2,500-square-metre establishment will be launched in partnership with G2 Esports, whose players will use the facilities as a training ground and content hub, and will be able to interact directly with fans through the venue.

Gaming startup Rally Cry raised $1.2 million (£979,002) in seed funding that includes investments from founders of Blizzard Entertainment, Twitch, and Riot Games.

Rally Cry is an esports platform for a more casual audience, aiming to “bring social and competitive gaming to all ages and skill levels,” according to a release.

Tribe Gaming raises over $1M, including from NBA, WWE stars

Mobile-centric esports organisation Tribe Gaming closed its seed funding round, raising over $1 million (£831,680).

Boston Celtics player Gordon Hayward was part of the round, alongside WWE pro wrestler Claudio “Cesaro” Castagnoli. They will serve as strategic advisors to the organisation along with others who contributed.

Anybrain receives 1M€ investment from Trust Esport

Artificial intelligence startup Anybrain received a €1 million (£889,648.67) investment from Trust Esport.

Anybrain.gg is an artificial intelligence and data processing firm which is looking to protect the security and integrity of online gaming and esports.

Simplicity Esports receives $500,000 investment from Triton Funds

Simplicity Esports and Gaming Company secured a $500,000 (£425,000) investment from Triton Funds, a student-run fund manager in the USA.

Simplicity Esports is a North American organisation which owns and manages several esports teams, most notably Flamengo Esports, which competes in Brazil’s premier League of Legends competition CBLoL.

Unicorns of Love receives investment from Tomislav Karajica

Berlin-based organisation Unicorns of Love cultivated investment from project developer and investor Tomislav Karajica, who will serve as a strategic partner for the team.

The investment comes from Karajica’s project development firm Home United, which owns Austrian football club SK Austria Klagenfurt and is an investor in FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin.

Computer peripherals and hardware company CORSAIR completed its purchase of custom controller company SCUF Gaming.

CORSAIR agreed to acquire the controller manufacturer and its patent portfolio in December 2019. This is the third acquisition by CORSAIR since EagleTree Capital secured a majority share in the company back in 2017.
