Adaplay provides esports offering to UK secondary schools

Adaplay looks to boost esports participation in the UK with the introduction of Rocket League and Fortnite tournaments for secondary school students.

The tournament organiser has created a series of competitions around the two titles in order to ‘create an inclusive, safe and secure environment’ for young people to compete in esports.

Adaplay’s platform, which launched in August, allows students to create a team, choose a game tournament, and then play competitive video games against different schools. Each tournament will boast a prize pool of £500 with competing schools paying £5.99 per student to participate.

The firm has recently pushed back its Autumn season start date to October 27 due to requests by students and teachers, highlighting the programme’s popularity despite only recently launching.

On Twitter Adaplay commented: “Due to overwhelming demand from students and teachers asking for an extension to the beginning of the Autumn season, because the Covid-19 pandemic has made the beginning of the school term more challenging, we have decided to start the Autumn season on October 27.

“There’s now more time for more players and schools to sign up and get involved in the fun.”

Adaplay has also confirmed that students will not need to be in the same location to compete in the tournaments.

The tournament organiser is one of many firms looking to boost grassroots esports in the country with a variety of organisations, such as the British Esports Association and Ukie, allowing UK student participation in tournaments.

Additionally, firms like The NUEL and NSE have integrated into universities to develop esports and boost participation in the country.

Esports Insider says: Adaplay provides young people with even more opportunities to delve into the world of esports, with the hope that the UK will have a stronger grassroots scene as a result. Only time will tell how successful the tournament programme is, however, its early popularity is a good sign.
